We consider it an idiom that tattoo art uses pictures as a means of expression to display a person’s attitude to some aspect of life. But alongside with graphical means tattoo lettering is widespread, and, if properly done, it can be even a more powerful message to the world.
There are no particular restrictions and rules within tattoo scripts. They give are so varied and multi-functional that the choice largely depends on your own preferences. Yet it is possible to set a clear line between two groups of tattoo lettering patterns: scripts that accompany a picture, and independent ones.

There are letterings that standalone without any picture to support them as they are enough to render the idea. A calligraphic style of writing is usually used for these means.
Ambigrams lettering also makes a cool tattoo. Ambigram is a work of art that can be read both forward and upside-down, which is both breathtaking and attractive.

You can choose from an array of writing styles and fonts and select any language for your tattoo lettering. But make sure you know a precise meaning of a phrase you want to wear on your body. English being a world language is a perfect means of expressing ideas and you will be understood wherever you go.
Different styles can be applied to tattoo lettering, with Old English and Chinese styled gaining popularity nowadays. Other options include Arabic, Celtic, Hindu, graffiti styles, clawed and flame patterns, etc. Tribal styled scripts, for instance, include symbols and alphabets of the language of various ancient tribes and add a spirit of mystery and adventure to the wearer.
