The mysterious eastern culture has always been attractive to westerners. Nowadays many young people think it is pretty cool and fashionable to have a hieroglyphic tattoo. They do not feel like bothering to find out good patterns and getting inside the culture, but just come to a tattoo shop, and ask for a tattoo which would say “love”, “truth” or whatever. I think I can understand the anger of tattoo artists. I personally would hate to tattoo “honor” in Japanese on someone who doesn’t give a $#!T about it. So here’s what can happen when you just try to follow fashion:

The Bronze medal goes to Joanne Raine, a teenage girl paid $160 to have her boyfriend’s nickname “Roo” tattooed on her stomach in Chinese, but got “Supermarket” instead. I bet, she had a bad time once she knew the truth.

Silver goes to Lee Becks. He says he wanted to have a tattoo which would look great. So he had one for $180 and was quite proud of it until he found out it said: “At the end of the day this is an ugly boy”. Very ironical isn’t it?

And the gold goes not to a victim but to an artist. Andy Sakai, an award-winning tattoo artist, was tired of seeing sacred Japanese words, symbols of his heritage, inked on random white people. So he used their blissful ignorance to make an everlasting statement. Any time a customer came to Sakai’s home studio wanting Japanese tattooed on them, he modified it into a profane word or phrase.

Prank Tattoo Lettering: The Artists Riot Pitt junior Brandon Smith wanted a tattoo that proclaimed his manliness, so he decided to get the Chinese characters for “strength” and “honor” on his chest. After 20 minutes under the needle of local tattoo artist Andy Sakai, he emerged with the symbol for “small penis” embedded in his flesh.

Kerri Baker, a Carlow College freshman, paid $50 to have the symbols for “beautiful goddess” etched above her belly button, but when she went into Szechuan Express Asian Noodle Shop sporting a bare midriff, the giggling employees explained to her that the tattoo really said, “Insert General Tso’s Chicken Here!” “I don’t even like General Tso’s!” Baker sobbed. “I’m a vegetarian!”

Sakai was imprisoned. But you know what, this is NOT the end of the story. He had his inmates as prank targets. Using a tattoo gun fashioned out of a sharpened paper clip, dental floss, and a ballpoint pen taped to a plastic spork, the disgruntled prisoner has drawn Black Panther Party symbols on white supremacists, written CRIPS 4 EVA on rival gang members, and left dozens of hardened criminals with butterflies, fairies, and unicorns permanently etched in their skin.

Many prisoners ask for spider webs on their elbows to signify time spent in jail. Sakai’s webs have hidden messages in them such as, “F*ck Cops,” “I Swallow,” and “Salad Tosser.”

“Prison isn’t so bad,” Sakai said. “It gives me time to sit and seriously contemplate my next diabolically evil plan!”

So here is an advice for you: once you have decided to have a hieroglyphical tattoo, use some online services to have the word/phrase you’ve chosen for it translated for you properly. Or at least make friends with some Chinese or Japanese non-fun-loving guys. And please, make sure that artists name is NOT Andy Sakai…

Brain-Piercing: Extreme Body Piercing Idea

The times when piercing was considered to be something extraordinary and even scary are gone. We are used to meet people with their ears, noses, eyebrows and even eyelids pierced. But what if I tell you that one can have his brain pierced? An extreme body piercing idea! And this is for real!

They drill small holes in your skull, then pass a metal (gold or silver) ring through them. The trick is that the ring presses the brain tissue and invokes euphoria. The whole procedure is carried under an anesthesia and after the ring is passed, it does not cause any pain.

So they will cut you hair first, then bore in your scull two tiny foramens with a drill, then drag the ring through them with the bent needle. The foramens will be done on your nucha - there is an especially sensitive range of a brain. The ring will easily massage it and keep you in the state of euphoria. The only problem you can face is that you will have to try hard to find a piercer. There are very few persons capable. And the price is $1000 for the whole procedure.

The people who do already have it say that brain-piercing is something less harmful and cheaper than drugs. Doctors say it may cause an irretrievable damage for your brain. But no pleasure comes for free. Anyway, can this become a piercing of the future? A constantly happy brain-pierced nation! How does this sound?

Different styles of tattoo have various ways of development. But it’s quite understandable that history played a major role in tattoo styles formation. World wars also promoted tattoo development.

The experts say that world tattoo history is rich in events and persons that made it famous. For instance, in the middle of the 19th century in Japan tattoos became a forbidden fruit because Japanese head of the state was a religious dogmatic.

1960s are considered to be not only the era of music and literature but also the time of tattoos. A great interest to the ancient and unusual art was explained by the development of countercultures, such as beatnik’s style of life, hippies, nudism, sexual and musical revolutions, and certainly a wide range of artistic sectors such as pop-art, psychedelic and postmodern art. It’s natural that these cultures influenced tattoo art greatly. This period tattoo art (a so called tattoo Old School) is characterized by one-color tattoo filling and bold image contours.

The most wide-spread and ancient tattoo styles are those who have effusive attributes: CELTIC, ORIENTAL and TRIBAL. Celtic tattoos special features are numerous Celtic ornaments; Oriental tattoo art uses everything connected with Asia (carps, dragons, lotuses and hieroglyphs); Tribal does long and short black and blue lines with pointed endings that symbolize marine and numerous earthly essences and plants.

Among separate tattoo trends are Polynesia tattoos (everything what is connected with cult isles that are known to be the ancestral home of tattoo), ????nia tattoos (Indian or Hade motives); Egypt tattoos, Maori, Inks and ???? ones that are difficult to be confused with other tattoo styles not so ancient as the latter ones. Different styles of tattoos also include Realism, Portrait, Floristic, Fantasy, ?iomechanic, High-Tech, Classic, Tradition, New School, Cyberpunk, Rybofunk, Comics, Acid and other different styles of tattoo that undoubtedly have their own zests.

Today high quality tattoo is a tribute to art, the evidence of the fact that a person is well-groomed and knows exactly new fashion trends and history. A good example is the American National Art Museum special tattoo window that presents tattoo as a separate art. Other tattoo museums are located in New York, Yokohama, Amsterdam and London. They are attended by people in the millions that pay homage and admiration to antique but paradoxically actual tattoo art.
