Perverted tattoos: Prisoners Of Prejudices
| Many people consider tattoos to be an art, which is absolutely true. But others strongly object to tattoos and sometimes a certain tattoo design becomes unwelcome and unpopular because of the born-out-of-nothing prejudices. |
| One of the most famous perverted tattoos is probably the runic charm ‘Fylfot’, which stands for good luck in some cultures, especially – in Slavic. It also symbolized the father of life – the sun. But not so long ago the Nazis made swastika (another name of Fylfot) symbolize fascism and it became an unforgettable mark and sign of war, death and pain. And though I know the original meaning of Fylfot, I still can’t force myself to change my negative attitude towards those who wear such tattoos. Sad, but it is truth. |
|
| Another tattoo design that is very beautiful but can bring some troubles to the owner is a tattoo of a butterfly. Though in many countries butterflies symbolize happiness in marriage, or souls of the fallen soldiers, or a wonder of the transformation (from a caterpillar into a real beauty), there is also a perverted meaning of such tattoos: they are alleged to be symbolizing a woman of easy virtue. Seems like nonsense, but it can sometimes spoil the fun. |
|
| A lot has been said about relationships between tattoos and Christianity. It’s probably difficult to find a tattooed person that hasn’t heard about Leviticus 19:27 “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you. I am the Lord.” This topic has already been touched in one of our previous posts. Many people oppose that this verse together with several precious mean doing things to honor the dead gods which has nothing to do with the real God. So if a tattoo’s goal is to glorify God – then there’s nothing wrong with it. Others make their point by saying that early Christians and apostole himself had tattoos. But still, this problem remains unsolved. |

Entering The World Of Tropical Tattoos
|
Beautiful flowers make our life more exciting, so it’s no wonder that tattoos of flowers and other bright tropical designs are one of the most popular and ancient types of tattoos besides such designs like evil cobra tattoo. Just like real flowers attract bees and butterflies, tropical flower tattoos attract people’s attention all over the world. It’s a common fact that people who choose a certain type of tattoo design tend to express their individuality through it. That’s why only few persons choose a tattoo design that has already become and extremely popular template. But there will be no two tropical tattoos alike, because a great variety of flower tattoos exists. Moreover, tattooists from all over the world are very careful about creating a flower tattoo design: even a simple tattoo of a rose can be found in thousands of sizes and shapes. The choice becomes even more varied if you want to add something to the flower composition – a fairy, a heart, a butterfly or something else. Whether you make a big tropical flower tattoo on your back or a small wild flower on your ankle – you can always be sure that your tattoo will be a 100 per cent unique and original. |
| One of the most popular tropical flower tattoos is lily. Different types of lilies have their own meaning. Water lily means a pure heart, Hemerocallis stands for coquetry, and a Tiger lily says “Dare to fall in love with me”. |
|
| Another quite popular tropical flower tattoo is a Hibiscus. It’s a state flower of Hawaii and it symbolizes delicate beauty and sophistication. |
|
| And rose, of course, is an indispensable tattoo design. Every person has his or her own opinion about the meaning of this flower, though it has some standard and traditional ones. Red roses stand for love and union, pink roses mean “Let’s guard the secret of our love”, and white roses tell us that this person is worthy of our love. But these meanings are not obligatory. |
|
| One of the merits of tropical tattoos is that they suit both women and man. Of course, women are more free to choose, but men can always make a flower tattoo look masculine adding strict geometrical or Celtic ornament. |

And all tattoos serve for difeerent purposes - aestetic, affiliating or rising one’s self-esteem. Today we’re going to explore the tattoo designs of cobras. Cobra very often can symbolize death and destruction because of its poisonous venom. But at the same time it can mean life and rebirth, because cobras, like other snakes, change their skin. In the ancient times cobras and other snakes used to be depicted together with different goddesses - they embodied such women’s characteristics as mysteriousness, intuition and unpredictability. For men a cobra means power and wisdom, but it is also a sign of insidiousness, slyness and darkness. That’s, probably one of the reasons of its popularity: cobra balances between the good and the evil – just like all human do. |

But when we’re talking about an evil cobra that is ready to fight – this tattoo can mean the owners strong and defensive character and shows that he or she can and will protect the things that are dear to him or her. One of the variations of cobra tattoo is an angry cobra protecting some objects like eggs or precious stones with some letters engraved. Such tattoo can mean protectiveness over the people whose initials are inked or it can be a tattoo made in loving memory of those who are gone that shows that the tattoo owner will never forget them. At the same time we should never forget the fact that a tattoo can bear no such meanings at all. |

Self Esteem Tattoos – Be Up To The Mark
A lot has been said about the influence of tattoos on people’s attitudes, opinions and self-esteem. Today popularity of tattoo grows owing to many celebrities who tend to get one, or two, or more tats on their bodies while other people emulate them. But a lot of psychologists are crying foul: tattoos are a sign of a very low self-esteem. To prove that they did a research and asked different people why have they done a tattoo. Psychologists got four variants of answers:
- Tattoo was a sign of protest and rebellion
- Tattoo indicated one’s belonging to a certain group
- Tattoo was made for an aesthetic reason
- Tattoo was made it the time of a big emotional stress
According to psychologists, those who had three or more tattoos had a low self-esteem regardless of the reasons they gave. Next in the list are those who had done it in protest or in order to underline their belonging to a certain group. And the last in line are people who had done a tattoo for aesthetic reason. All in all it looks like you will be always considered to be a person with low self-esteem, whatever reason you have. But sometimes it is getting a tattoo that lowers your self-esteem because of prejudices many people have against tattoos or because the result may turn out to be unwanted or simply because the owners get bored with it with time and start to dislike it.
But I think there are certain types of tattoos that actually increase one’s self-esteem.
First of all – it’s a permanent make-up. It help to enhance one’s beauty and accentuate one’s eyes, brows and lips. No smeared mascara, no smudges of lipstick - isn’t it great for a woman to feel perfect all the time?
